Instructions for roasting coffee beans yourself
1. Obtain green coffee: Choose your preferred type of green coffee bean, either online or from a local specialty retailer.
2. Prepare your equipment: You can roast using different methods – in a roasting machine, a pan or in the oven. For beginners, a pan is recommended.
3. Weigh the coffee beans: For one to two cups of coffee you need about 30-40g of green coffee.
4. Heating: Heat the pan to medium-high and add the beans. Stir constantly to ensure even roasting and prevent burning.
5. Watch and listen: After about 5-10 minutes you will hear the characteristic “crackling” of the beans – the first “first crack”. For a mild taste, take the beans out now. If you want a stronger coffee, wait for the second “second crack”, which comes about 3-5 minutes later.
6. Allow to cool: Once the beans have reached the desired roast, immediately remove them from the pan and allow them to cool on a rack or in a sieve.
7. Storage: Store the beans in an airtight container in a cool, dark place and let them rest for at least 24 hours before grinding and brewing.
Enjoy your freshly roasted coffee – every step brings new flavors and possibilities!
